Jaguar unveiled the Type 01 on October 7, 2026, and it doesn’t look, drive, or behave like anything the brand has built before. This is a luxury four-door GT with up to 1,030 PS, a 3.2-second 0-62 mph time, and a drag coefficient of just 0.23 — numbers that would be notable on their own, but the real story is what this car represents. Jaguar is calling it a complete creative reset, not a continuation of past design language.
Type 01 is the first production car built on Jaguar’s new JEA (Jaguar Electric Architecture), a dedicated electric-only platform that exists specifically to make this car’s proportions and performance possible. More than that, it’s the foundation of a broader repositioning: Jaguar wants to be known as a modern luxury brand first, with sports-car heritage as just one part of a much bigger story.
Jaguar says Type 01 started as a blank sheet of paper in the design studio, with no constraints, and was then refined in the wind tunnel until the shape and the aerodynamics matched. The result is a low roofline, short front overhang, long bonnet, extended rear overhang, and 23-inch wheels — proportions Jaguar describes as delivering presence and drama from every angle.
Making that silhouette work at highway speed required Active Vanes, a three-stage deployable spoiler, and extensive airflow optimization, which together produce a 0.23 drag coefficient, making Type 01 the most aerodynamic Jaguar built to date. None of it happened by accident. Jaguar says achieving a four-door GT with more than 1,000 PS and the brand’s signature driving character demanded a body architecture unique to the company, engineered specifically to deliver that original design vision rather than adapted from an existing platform.
Type 01’s performance numbers put it at the top of Jaguar’s lineup: up to 1,030 PS and 1,365 Nm of torque from a tri-motor setup with Intelligent Torque Vectoring, enough for a 3.2-second 0-62 mph run and a 4.0-second sprint from 62 to 112 mph. Jaguar frames that rolling-acceleration figure as proof the car has power in reserve at any speed, not just off the line.
The company credits its Jaguar TCS Racing Formula E program, a two-time world championship winner, with helping tune that character. Weight distribution sits at a dead-even 50:50, and Jaguar describes the result as two dynamic characters in one car: deep power reserves paired with refined comfort, which is the company’s pitch for how Type 01 drives like a Jaguar should, even without a combustion engine under the hood.
Underpinning the performance is an 850-volt electrical architecture paired with a 118 kWh usable battery, which Jaguar says delivers an expected EPA range of up to 400 miles, or up to 450 miles under the WLTP cycle. On sustained highway speeds, Jaguar puts the range closer to 320 miles.
Charging is built around 350 kW DC rapid charging, with Jaguar claiming up to 200 miles of range added in as little as 13 minutes. The company also points to its own customer-journey data, drawn from more than 920,000 JLR vehicles across 51 markets, to back a claim that the range covers 99.7 percent of all trips without needing a mid-journey charge.
Inside, Type 01 abandons the conventional dashboard-and-console layout in favor of a central spine that runs the length of the cabin, splitting the interior into four individual occupant spaces. Brass-effect anodized aluminum finishers mirror that spine on each side, emphasizing the car’s scale and longitudinal proportions rather than hiding it under soft trim.
In front of the driver sits a 24-inch single-glass OLED screen Jaguar calls the Interactive Driver Display, paired with a smaller seven-inch smartphone-style touchscreen between driver and front passenger for the most-used controls. Audio comes from the Jaguar Immersive Sound System, built around Sensory Audio seats and a full-width, full-range Panoramic Soundbar that Jaguar says is an automotive first.
Jaguar says Type 01 carries more than 360 patent applications, making it the most technically advanced car the brand has ever engineered. That’s a deliberate signal: this isn’t a facelift of old Jaguar DNA wearing a battery pack, it’s a ground-up reinvention built specifically for an electric-only future.
Rawdon Glover, Managing Director of Jaguar, framed the car as the foundation for where the brand is headed, saying Jaguars should be objects of desire and culturally relevant, and that’s the habitat Jaguar is returning to. Type 01 is designed, engineered, and built in the UK, and its name is meant to carry that message literally: “Type” nods to the brand’s historic nameplates, “0” marks zero tailpipe emissions, and “1” marks the first car of a new generation. Orders are expected to open in early 2027, with first client deliveries anticipated in the second half of that year.
Whether buyers accustomed to Jaguar’s sports-car heritage embrace a four-door electric GT built on entirely new foundations remains to be seen, but Jaguar isn’t hedging. Type 01 is the clearest statement yet that the brand’s future is electric, modernist, and unapologetically different from everything that came before it.
