Suzuki’s long-running SV formula is branching out. The 2027 SV-7GX takes the familiar 645cc V-twin platform behind the SV650 and turns it into a road-focused middleweight crossover touring motorcycle, adding more wind protection, an upright riding position, touring-friendly equipment, and a substantially more modern electronics package. It also borrows some visual cues from the much larger GSX-S1000GX.

For the US, Suzuki is offering two versions. The SV-7GX starts at $8,599, while the SV-7GXV lowers the entry price to $8,399. Despite the additional letter, the GXV isn’t a different mechanical specification. Suzuki gives it a simpler Pearl Brilliant White bodywork, while the GX gets a choice of Pearl Brilliant White/Metallic Triton Blue or Pearl Matte Greige

The SV650 Engine Finds A New Role

Rather than using the 776cc parallel-twin found in models such as the GSX-8S and GSX-8R, Suzuki has retained the 645cc liquid-cooled 90-degree V-twin closely associated with the tried and tested SV650. It uses dual overhead cams and four valves per cylinder, with an 81mm bore and 62.6mm stroke. For the SV-7GX / 7GXV, Suzuki has added modern electronic ride-by-wire throttle bodies. The rest of it remains familiar, using the same six-speed transmission and wet multi-plate Suzuki Clutch Assist System. Output is rated at 72.4 horsepower at 8,500rpm and 47.2 lb-ft of torque at 6,800rpm.

Modern Electronics Come To The V-Twin

The bigger change is everything surrounding that established engine. The Suzuki Intelligent Ride System includes three Suzuki Drive Mode Selector settings, with each providing full engine output but altering throttle response and power delivery. Switchable traction control is standard on the US model, along with a bi-directional quickshifter, Low RPM Assist, and Suzuki Easy Start.

There’s also a 4.2-inch color TFT display with Suzuki Ride Connect+ smartphone integration. With a compatible phone and data connection, it can display turn-by-turn navigation, weather information, notifications, and other connected functions. A USB-C charging port sits near the instruments, while LED lighting is standard throughout.

The Suzuki SV-7GX adopts the taller stance and half-fairing expected of a crossover, but its chassis specifications keep it firmly road oriented. The bike uses a tubular steel trellis frame, 17-inch cast aluminum wheels, and Pirelli Angel GT II tires measuring 120/70ZR17 at the front and 160/60ZR17 at the rear.

A non-adjustable 41mm telescopic fork provides 4.9 inches of travel, while the linkage-type rear shock offers seven-step spring preload adjustment and 5.1 inches of travel. Braking comes from twin front discs with four-piston Brembo calipers, backed by a single-piston Nissin rear setup. ABS is standard.

Touring Hardware Comes Standard

Suzuki has given the SV-7GX a 31.3-inch seat height, with thicker padding than the SV650 platform from which it evolved. The windscreen has three height positions spanning approximately 2 inches of adjustment, while knuckle covers and an integrated rear carrier are fitted as standard.

Fuel capacity is 4.6 gallons, wheelbase measures 56.9 inches, and ground clearance is 5.3 inches. Suzuki lists curb weight at 465 pounds, including fluids and a full tank of fuel. These dimensions put the emphasis on pavement and everyday accessibility rather than the longer suspension and larger front wheels typically associated with more off-road-focused adventure machines.

The GXV Is Basically The Value Version

There aren’t any engine, chassis, electronics, or equipment downgrades when choosing the $8,399 SV-7GXV. It shares the GX’s 645cc V-twin, suspension, brakes, TFT display, rider aids, dimensions, and 465-pound curb weight. The distinction is purely cosmetic. The GXV comes exclusively in Pearl Brilliant White with subdued graphics and black chassis components, saving $200 compared with the SV-7GX. The base GX’s extra cost effectively buys access to its more elaborate color and graphic combinations.

New Segment, Same Trusted Formula

The SV-7GX gives Suzuki another middleweight option without simply duplicating its existing 776cc parallel-twin lineup. Instead, it repackages the established SV650 V-twin for riders looking for a more upright, faired motorcycle aimed at commuting, weekend trips, and road touring. In fact, this isn’t uncharted territory for the SV650 platform, as it has worn half or full fairings at various points in the past with SV650S or SV650SF variations.

At $8,399 for the SV-7GXV and $8,599 for the SV-7GX, both sit far below the $18,749 liter-class GSX-S1000GX+ in Suzuki’s US crossover lineup. More importantly, they combine the legendary SV powerplant with equipment the traditional SV650 never offered, including ride-by-wire electronics, selectable ride modes, a quickshifter, TFT connectivity, and standard touring hardware.
