If you’re shopping for a compact luxury sedan today, chances are you’re looking at a BMW, Mercedes-Benz or Audi. As more buyers have shifted from sedans to SUVs, the luxury sedan segment has shrunk. Recent alternatives, like the Acura TLX and the (soon to be) Cadillac CT4/5-V Blackwing, are being discontinued. With fewer competitors remaining, buyers have fewer alternatives to the German brands.
As a result, buyers have had to turn to long-standing Germans. And while they certainly do have their cars down to a science, some buyers simply don’t want to deal with the premium prices that come with a premium driving experience. But that doesn’t mean that buyers are totally out of luck. One brand, in particular, has quietly built a sedan that challenges the Germans on performance, technology, and ownership value without the premium pricing often associated with Germany’s luxury brands.
Entry-Level German Luxury Now Starts Near $50,000 — Before You Add Options

Entry-level luxury sedans aren’t quite, well, entry-level nowadays. A base BMW 330i sets you back $48,000, while an equivalent Mercedes is $1,650 more. If you want an Audi A5, that’s an additional $2,200 more expensive than a base BMW 3 Series. In other words, entry level means paying nearly $50,000 for a base-model midsize luxury sedan if you want a German model. And with desirable options staying locked behind expensive packages, you can expect to pay in the mid 50s or beyond if you want even some creature comforts.
Buyers looking for premium audio, adaptive cruise control, head-up displays, or more advanced driver-assistance systems often have to climb the trim ladder or tick multiple option boxes. It doesn’t take many packages before an entry-level luxury sedan is suddenly competing with cars from the segment above on price.

But that doesn’t mean all luxury sedans are like this. And while it certainly is true that non-German rivals are few and far between, there’s still one rival on the market today that gives buyers more than they expect from its price tag.
The Genesis G70 Undercuts Its Cheapest German Rival By Over $4,500

The Genesis G70 shines at doing just that: providing exceptional value without the premium price tag. For starters, the G70 starts at $43,450, which undercuts its cheapest German rival by over $4,500. And while $43,450 certainly isn’t cheap, it’s certainly closer to being “entry-level” than its rivals are.
300 Horsepower, Brembo Brakes, And Smart Cruise: What The G70 Includes Before You Add A Single Option
And while many buyers might assume that the roughly $4,500 price advantage comes at the expense of performance, that’s far from the case; the Genesis G70 is actually more powerful than its German rivals in base trim. The G70 packs 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque thanks to a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Compare that to the BMW 330i and Mercedes C300 with their 255 horsepower, and the G70 enjoys a 45-horsepower advantage over both. The A5’s 268 horsepower is slightly better than its German rivals, but still 32 horsepower short of the G70.
Surely the compromise comes in technology, right? Well… Not quite. The 2026 G70 comes handsomely equipped in its base trim. The most basic G70 comes standard with a Brembo braking system, a feature typically reserved for higher trims or performance variants, and definitely not an entry-level sedan costing less than $45,000.

The base G70 comes with plenty of creature comforts too. Expected amenities such as heated front seats and a power-adjustable driver’s seat are included. However, standard Smart Cruise Control and Highway Driving Assist put it ahead of its German rivals even in base trim. Genesis also equips all its G70s with a 10.25-inch center screen and an eight-inch digital gauge cluster, which adds a premium feel even at its sub $44,000 price point.
The G70’s value advantage extends beyond horsepower and cabin equipment. Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist are all included as standard. BMW bundles several comparable systems into an optional package on the 330i, while Mercedes and Audi require buyers to pay extra for their more advanced lane-centering and adaptive-cruise systems.
The G70’s Top Trim Matches M340i Performance For $9,000 Less

The G70 continues to impress as you look at the higher trim levels, too. Those who choose to move up to the 3.3T Sport Prestige trim step up to considerably more performance. As its name suggests, Genesis fits a 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that produces 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque in place of the four-cylinder.
To get comparable six-cylinder performance from Germany, shoppers typically have to step up to models like the BMW M340i or Audi S5, both of which start roughly $9,000 higher than the G70 3.3T. And while yes, those rivals do make more horsepower, the $9,000 difference makes that extra horsepower seem pretty expensive.

The upgrades aren’t limited to what’s under the hood, either. The 3.3T Sport Prestige also adds a limited-slip differential and a variable exhaust valve system, while the cabin receives premium touches including ventilated front seats, a head-up display and upgraded interior trim. When you put it all together, the Genesis gives buyers far more bang for their buck than the Germans do.
Genesis Backs The G70 Better Than Most Luxury Brands

But arguably, the biggest value the G70 offers over its German rivals is its warranty. Luxury cars and performance sedans aren’t exactly known for being affordable to maintain, which is why warranty matters so much.
Every new G70 is backed by Genesis’ five-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty, which is exactly one additional year or 10,000 extra miles of comprehensive coverage more than an equivalent BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi. But it doesn’t stop there.
Genesis goes even further with a 10-year/100,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty, covering major engine and transmission components. For those counting, that’s twice the mileage that its German rivals offer. And to sweeten the deal even more, Genesis also includes three years or 36,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance.
Why The Genesis G70 Gives Buyers More Than They Expect
The Genesis G70 may not have a fancy German badge, nor does it carry the decades-long prestige of BMW, Mercedes-Benz or Audi, but it sure does make an incredibly compelling case for itself. To prove itself against established prestige, Genesis created a luxury sedan with strong standard performance, impressive standard technology, and, more importantly, a genuinely entry-level price in a segment where that term has become increasingly difficult to justify.
No, the G70 won’t convince every lifelong German luxury buyer to switch brands. For buyers looking for a true performance sedan, the Germans offer far better performance than the G70, regardless of trim level. But that’s not the market Genesis is targeting. Most buyers are shopping for 330is, C 300s and Audi A5s, not M3s or AMG C 63s. And for shoppers who don’t mind what their badge shows, the G70 is one of the smartest luxury sedans on the market today.
In a segment where competitors continue to push prices higher and options even higher, the Genesis G70 stands out by giving buyers more from the moment they drive it off the lot and long after they leave the dealership. In a segment where prestige often comes at a premium, the G70 proves that buyers don’t have to sacrifice luxury, performance, or peace of mind to save money.
