That’s a Wrap: Southeastern High School Students Finish Internship at Stellantis’ Detroit Assembly C
• Students completed eight-week program with real-world experiences in automotive manufacturing
• Nearly 70 students have participated in the program since 2019
For nine Southeastern High School students, this summer was more than a break from school – it was a launchpad for their futures. Through an eight-week internship at Stellantis’ Detroit Assembly Complex, the students gained hands-on experience, developed new skills and discovered what a career in automotive manufacturing can look like.
‘We believe investing in young people is an investment in the future of our industry and our community,’ said Christine Estereicher, vice president, corporate affairs, Stellantis North America. ‘In partnership with the Detroit Public Schools Community District Career and Technical program, these students gained valuable exposure to advanced automotive manufacturing, teamwork and problem-solving, while exploring rewarding career opportunities. We are proud to help inspire and develop the next generation of innovators, skilled trades people and industry leaders.’
The students worked in various departments at Stellantis’ Jefferson and Mack plants supporting well-being, health and safety; paint; Stellantis Industrial System (SIS); industrial engineering, warranty and maintenance. They supported projects for improvements at the plants, including slip, trip, fall safety reminders; standard work audits; production analysis and supporting events for the United Way.
Since its inception in 2019, Stellantis has welcomed nearly 70 interns from Southeastern High School to its Detroit facilities. Students need to be enrolled at Southeastern and turn 18 by June 1 of the program year to be eligible.
As part of the company’s commitment to the community and to youth education, Stellantis has provided opportunities for students from Southeastern High School. In October 2025, following a $4 million contribution from the company, the Career Technical Education Annex opened at Southeastern High School. Stellantis and the Detroit Public Schools Community District also created the Advanced Manufacturing Career Academy, which is an education-career pathway program that enables students to jump start their careers in the high-growth, high-demand field of advanced manufacturing.
In 2019, Stellantis (then FCA) announced that it would invest $2.5 billion to convert the former Mack Avenue Engine Complex into a new assembly plant – the first new assembly plant in the city of Detroit in 30 years – and retool the Jefferson North Assembly Plant to support production of the next-generation Jeep® vehicles. The Mack plant started production in 2021 and currently assembles the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee L. The Jefferson plant assembles the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango.
