This Classic Chevy Truck Has More Muscle Than Most Modern Hypercars
This old Chevy C10 looks like it should be hauling hay, rusty tools, and maybe a few bags of animal feed. Instead, it’s packing a supercharged Nelson Racing V8 that sends more than 900 horsepower to the wheels.
Featured in a video from AutotopiaLA, this beautifully weathered 1960 Chevrolet C10 Apache was built by Arizona High Test for an Australian owner named Mark. The truck still wears its sunburned paint and old farm-truck attitude, but underneath, it has enough power to bully modern supercars and vaporize its tires on command.
This Old Chevy Truck Is Practically A Supercar Hunter
The C10 originally left the factory with a humble six-cylinder engine. Mark reportedly found it in Wisconsin and drove it all the way to Arizona in the middle of summer.
Arizona High Test preserved the truck’s genuine patina instead of repainting it or faking decades of wear. From the outside, it still looks like a charming survivor. Open the hood, however, and the disguise falls apart immediately. Sitting inside the custom engine bay is a 427-cubic-inch Nelson Racing V8 topped by a massive Whipple supercharger. According to the builders, it produced nearly 1,400 horsepower on the engine dyno and 953 horsepower at the wheels during testing in Arizona’s brutal heat.
That is an outrageous amount of muscle for anything, never mind an old pickup riding on relatively narrow tires. Mark apparently calls it “reckless horsepower,” and after watching the AutotopiaLA video, that description feels pretty accurate.
The best part is that the C10 isn’t some miserable drag truck that overheats in traffic and shakes your fillings loose. It has air conditioning, highway-friendly gearing, and a flex-fuel system that can run on regular premium gasoline or E85. It can cruise around like an innocent classic pickup right up until the supercharger starts whining and the rear tires begin begging for mercy.
The Old-School Chevy Wheels Are Playing Tricks On You
At first glance, the C10 appears to be wearing basic 15-inch steel wheels with classic Chevy hubcaps. Look closer, and things get weird.
They are actually custom 20-inch wheels designed to look much smaller. The outer edges were painted black to blend in with the tires, creating one of the sneakiest wheel designs we have seen on a restroom.
The larger wheels also make room for huge Baer brakes, which seems sensible when your 66-year-old pickup has enough power to chase down a Lamborghini. Despite all that muscle, the truck runs 255-section tires at all four corners. That isn’t much rubber for more than 900 horsepower, but massive traction was never really the goal. Mark has owned seriously fast drag cars before, and this time, he wanted something playful, unpredictable, and willing to light up the tires while already moving. Judging by the footage, he got exactly that.
This Chevy C10 Is Full Of Brilliant Little Details
The engine may grab all the attention, but the clever touches make this build special. A switch inside the cab opens an exhaust outlet through the front fender, allowing the supercharged V8 to go from loud to absolutely antisocial. The builders placed the exit where the body already had some rust, turning an ugly patch into the truck’s wildest party trick.
Even the original fuel filler behind the seat has been repurposed. Instead of filling the gas tank, it now provides access to the ice reservoir used to cool the supercharger system. Imagine pulling into a gas station and casually dumping ice into the side of your 1960 Chevy.
Inside, the original dashboard and bench seat remain, but modern gauges, paddle shifters, and a shift light quietly reveal that this isn’t Grandpa’s farm truck anymore.
AutotopiaLA’s video shows a C10 that manages to be hilarious, terrifying, and genuinely usable at the same time. It looks old, sounds furious, and has enough power to turn a casual drive into a rolling burnout. Some custom trucks are built to win trophies. This one looks like it was built to make its owner laugh uncontrollably every time the supercharger kicks in.
