Shaquille O’Neal’s One-Off Lucid Air Coupe Just Hit Copart
Most celebrities buy expensive cars. Shaquille O’Neal has to reinvent them. Standing over seven feet tall, the four-time NBA champion has spent years commissioning custom vehicles that simply don’t exist anywhere else, stretching Ferraris, Corvettes, and modifying exotic cars just so he can fit behind the wheel. One of the most unusual creations in that collection has now surfaced for sale, and it’s headed to an unlikely place: Copart.
The heavily customized Lucid Air Coupe built for Shaq has appeared on the salvage auction site after suffering front-end damage. That means someone is about to have the opportunity to own one of the strangest electric cars ever commissioned by an NBA superstar…provided they’re willing to take on the repairs.
Shaq Turned A Four-Door Lucid Into A One-Off Coupe
The car isn’t a factory special from Lucid. It’s the work of Effortless Motors, a California custom shop that has become synonymous with building impossible vehicles for high-profile clients. If the name sounds familiar, it should. The shop has built multiple vehicles for Shaq over the years and has also tackled projects like Mark Zuckerberg’s Porsche Cayenne-based minivan conversion. Long before that, it earned recognition through work on MTV’s Pimp My Ride. For Shaq, the mission was straightforward: make an electric luxury sedan fit someone who stands more than seven feet tall.
The result was a one-off Lucid Air Coupe, transforming the standard four-door sedan into something that looks more like a grand tourer than a family EV. The build also includes several personal touches, including Superman logos and “Diesel” badging, a nod to both one of Shaq’s longtime nicknames and his career as DJ Diesel. Ironically, the “Diesel” badges now sit on an all-electric sedan. Underneath the custom bodywork, the car remains based on the entry-level Lucid Air Pure, producing 480 horsepower and 686 lb-ft of torque.
The Custom Build Survived But The Front End Didn’t
Unfortunately, the Lucid’s latest chapter isn’t nearly as glamorous. The custom coupe now appears at Copart following a front-end collision. Images from the listing show the front bumper removed entirely, while multiple components beneath the nose appear damaged. From the A-pillar rearward, however, the car looks remarkably intact considering the extent of the impact.
That leaves a difficult question for potential buyers. Repairing any Lucid can be expensive due to limited parts availability and the complexity of modern EV systems. Repairing a one-off coachbuilt Lucid designed specifically for Shaquille O’Neal adds another layer of complexity that very few collision shops have likely encountered before. The good news is mileage. The odometer shows roughly 2,900 miles, meaning the custom EV barely had time to accumulate any meaningful use before ending up at auction.
Buying A Celebrity Car Is One Thing, Buying Shaq’s Is Another
Copart estimates the Lucid’s retail value at around $59,000, although that figure becomes harder to judge once celebrity ownership and one-off modifications enter the equation. Normally, buying a wrecked EV is already a gamble. Buying one that was custom-built for one of the largest athletes in sports history is something else entirely.
Whoever wins this auction won’t simply be repairing another damaged luxury sedan. They’ll be taking on one of the most recognizable celebrity builds in recent years, a car that quite literally exists because nobody makes production vehicles big enough for Shaquille O’Neal. For collectors of celebrity cars, that’s a difficult story to replicate.
