The Renault 4 E-Tech electric has once again been recognised as one of the UK’s most compelling SUVs, after retaining its title of ‘Small SUV of the Year’ at the prestigious Auto Express New Car Awards 2026.

Following its success in the same category last year, the Renault 4 E-Tech electric impressed once again with its blend of distinctive retro-inspired design, user-friendly technology and strong electric driving credentials.

Explaining why the Renault 4 E-Tech electric stood out in a highly competitive category, Phil McNamara, Editor-at-large, Auto Express, said: ‘The new Renault 4 is much more than a tribute act, with plenty of substance behind the unmistakable style. There’s the incredibly intuitive Google tech onboard and it’s simply great to drive; whether that’s in town making the most of the one-pedal driving ability, comfortably cruising on the motorway or being chucked around on a country road, and being efficient the whole time, too.’

Accepting the award, Adam Wood, Managing Director, Renault UK, said: ‘For Renault 4 E-Tech electric to retain its Auto Express Small SUV of the Year title is a fantastic achievement. It’s a car with real character and style, but also one that delivers the practicality and versatility that customers need every day. This recognition underlines how successfully the Renault 4 combines the spirit of the original with the expectations of today’s electric car buyers.’

The long wheelbase of the Renault 4 E-Tech electric helps create generous passenger space, while the 420-litre boot is designed for easy access and expands to 1,405 litres with the rear seats folded.

Renault’s OpenR Link system is standard across the range, with powerful Google services built-in such as charging-optimised navigation, operated through a 10.1-inch central touchscreen. A range of up to 249 miles (WLTP) and rapid charging capability further enhance its credentials.
