Industry Minister, Chris McDonald MP Officially Launches Hethel Performance Hub

The Hethel Performance Hub (HPH) has been officially launched today by Chris McDonald MP, Industry Minister. This marks a major milestone for the Hethel Performance Hub, building on Lotus’ long-established engineering, manufacturing and testing capability at Hethel while creating new opportunities for partners to collaborate, develop and manufacture at the site.

The event showcased the breadth of activity already underway at the HPH, including active engineering and manufacturing programmes, as well as a growing number of partners operating within the Hethel environment.

As part of the official launch, Chris McDonald MP unveiled a commemorative plaque at Hethel, marking a key milestone for the Hethel Performance Hub.

The Minister and guests were welcomed by Matt Nice, Deputy Managing Director, Lotus Cars, with a display of Lotus vehicles and past collaborative programmes, including the Lotus 100T Formula 1 car, the Limited Edition ‘Clark Edition’ Emira, the new Emira 420 Sport, the Lotus Evija all-electric hypercar, Tesla Roadster and Vauxhall VX220. Together, the display demonstrated Hethel’s long-standing role in engineering excellence, specialist vehicle development and collaboration.

The Minister and guests were then given a tour of the facilities, highlighting the integration of engineering, manufacturing and testing capability within the Hethel Performance Hub. The Minister also took the opportunity to drive a Lotus Evija, the 2,011 hp EV hypercar which is handbuilt alongside the award-winning Lotus Emira at the company’s headquarters in Hethel, Norfolk.

The Minister also engaged with current and prospective partners, viewing exhibits including those from Charge Cars, Zenos, and an Emira GT4 race car project with Cranfield University.
The Hethel Performance Hub forms part of a wider programme of investment and development in the area, supported by substantial road infrastructure improvements delivered by South Norfolk Council and Norfolk County Council. These works are unlocking significant development land, enabling further expansion for advanced engineering and manufacturing activity and supporting long-term regional growth.

The nearby Hethel Engineering Centre, located next to Lotus’ facility, is also supporting the HPH as a local ecosystem partner, helping to strengthen collaboration between businesses, technical partners and regional stakeholders around Hethel.

The Hethel Performance Hub continues to support a range of UK and international collaborations, spanning component supply, engineering programmes and full vehicle development activities – demonstrating its breadth and flexibility.

Charge Holdings, for example, is relocating its full operations, including Charge Cars and wider group vehicle programmes to Hethel and Zenos Cars has signed Heads of Terms with Lotus Cars, with a view to using the Hethel Performance Hub as a centre for production of vehicles into the future. DR Automobiles is also a confirmed partner with further details of the confidential project to be announced later this year.

‘This facility showcases the best of British industry, will drive stronger supply chains, create highly skilled jobs and help make the UK the best place in the world to design, build and export vehicles.’
