Summary

The Porsche Cayenne is a large luxury electric SUV and the big brother of the Macan Electric. Now available to order in the UK, this battery-powered range arrived eight years after the third-generation petrol-powered Cayenne, which is still on sale. It is now offered in a both SUV and coupé-SUV bodystyles.

The battery-powered Cayenne has received a glowing set of review scores from the British motoring media, being described by Top Gear’s Joe Holding as a “stupendous technical achievement” that reshapes “what you think should be possible in a big family car.”

The Independent’s Steve Fowler asserts that the Cayenne “sets the new benchmark for performance EV SUVs”, thanks to its “supercar pace, 400kW fast charging” and by offering the sharpest steering when compared to its heavy-set rivals.

Besides the car’s performance pedigree, Car’s Ted Welford also highlights the large SUV for its “staggeringly good interior”, with “plentiful” legroom and a curved touchscreen sitting front and centre on the dashboard that is “incredibly easy to negotiate”.

Reviewer criticism of the Cayenne Electric is sparse, with the most common complaint being stepping pricing and a costly optional extras list. It is a Porsche after all. Some reviewers did mention smaller annoyances, like the car’s thick A-pillars limiting forward visibility, and the coupé-SUV bodystyle reducing rear headroom. You can also find alternatives with more boot space in this class.

As of July 2026, the Porsche Cayenne Electric holds a New Car Expert Rating of A, with a score of 78%. Despite the car’s overwhelmingly positive review scoring and excellent Euro NCAP safety profile, this overall rating is hindered somewhat by high predicted running costs.

Adult protection: 91%
Child protection: 89%
Vulnerable road users: 81%
Safety assist: 79%

While the Euro NCAP safety credentials of the petrol-powered Cayenne have now expired, the Cayenne Electric was put through its crash test paces in late 2025, and passed with flying colours. The SUV had particularly impressive safety scores in the adult protection and child protection categories.

Eco rating

Independent economy and emissions ratings from Green NCAP

No eco rating

As of February 2026, the Porsche Cayenne Electric has not been assessed by Green NCAP.

The Green NCAP programme measures exhaust pollution (which is zero for an electric car) and energy efficiency. Electric cars are much more energy-efficient than combustion cars, so the Cayenne Electric is likely to score very highly in Green NCAP testing if and when it takes place. Check back again soon.

Running cost rating

Battery range Average Score Variation Score
EV models 399 miles A
Electrical efficiency Average Score Variation Score
EV models 3 m/KWh E
Insurance group Average Score Variation Score
All models 49 E

The Porsche Cayenne Electric is a relatively very expensive car to own and run, according to whole-life cost numbers provided exclusively to The Car Expert by our data partner, Clear Vehicle Data.

Yes, its average battery range of 399 miles is excellent when compared to the market at large, but its heavy weight means that its electrical efficiency (the EV equivalent of miles per gallon) is only 3 m/KWh, meaning it is one of the least efficient electric cars you can buy. If range is particularly important to you, smaller but similarly luxurious alternatives like the BMW iX3 and Volvo EX60 can offer significantly more range on a single charge.

Insurance costs are where you would expect. This Porsche is predicted to sit in one of the most expensive insurance brackets.

New car warranty duration 3 years

Battery warranty duration 8 years
Battery warranty mileage 100,000 miles

Porsche’s new car warranty is better than average, and better than rival brands in a similar price bracket as the Cayenne Electric. The duration is three years, with no limit on mileage.

In addition to the standard new car warranty, this electric SUV has an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty for the battery components.

Warranty on a used Porsche Cayenne Electric

  • If you are buying an ‘Approved Used’ Porsche Cayenne Electric from an official Porsche dealership, you will get a minimum two-year warranty included.
  • If you are buying a used Porsche Cayenne Electric from an independent dealership, any warranty offered will vary and will probably be managed by a third-party warranty company.
  • If you are buying a used Porsche Cayenne Electric from a private seller, there are no warranty protections beyond any remaining portion of the original new car warranty.

If you’re looking to buy any used car that is approaching the end of its warranty period, a used car warranty is usually a worthwhile investment. Check out The Car Expert’s guide to the best used car warranty providers, which will probably be cheaper than a warranty sold by a dealer.
