BMW has pulled the wraps off the iX4, the third model in its Neue Klasse lineup. It follows the iX3 and i3, and this time the new design language comes as a sleek, fully electric SUV coupe. BMW is positioning it as the most emotional and expressive Neue Klasse model yet, pairing a flowing coupe roofline with the brand’s next-generation technology and a driver-focused cabin.

The iX4 goes on sale in March 2027 as the iX4 50 xDrive, starting at $66,200 before destination. A range-topping M60 xDrive with a sharper M Performance look follows shortly after. Like the iX3, it will be built at BMW’s new plant in Debrecen, Hungary.

Inside, the iX4 takes the clean, minimalist look of the Neue Klasse and gives it a sportier edge. The layout is clearly built around the driver, and quality materials across the dashboard keep it feeling upscale. Big windows and a standard full-length panoramic glass roof make the cabin bright and airy.

The iX4 rides on an architecture designed from the start for EVs, which frees up a lot of space. Its long wheelbase gives generous legroom in both rows. BMW says the sloping roofline still leaves good headroom in the back, though rear passengers will feel the coupe styling more than they would in the boxier iX3.

The fastback shape also costs some cargo space. The new iX4 offers up to 17.3 cubic feet of boot space with the seats up, 56.5 cubic feet with them folded, plus an extra 2 cubic feet in the frunk. The rear seats split and fold 40/20/40, and the front trunk stores the charging cable.

The dashboard is dominated by BMW’s Panoramic iDrive. A display spans the base of the windshield and puts key driving info right in the driver’s line of sight. A 17.9-inch central touchscreen is angled toward the driver, and an optional 3D head-up display sits above everything else. Owners can customize layouts, widgets, and colors, or upload their own wallpaper through the My BMW App.

A new sports steering wheel uses “shy-tech” controls that light up only when they’re needed. The M60 gets its own M Sport wheel with a red center marker, colored stitching, shift paddles, and dedicated buttons for Boost and M modes. It also gets M-specific screen graphics and M interior trim.

The iX4 50 comes standard with sporty, power-adjustable seats with memory. Multifunction seats with massage are optional. M60 buyers can add M Sport seats with illuminated M logos and heavily bolstered backrests. Upholstery choices range from the standard black Veganza and M PerformTex to two-tone Veganza finishes and Merino leather.

Other comforts include a magnetic wireless charging tray, power door openers front and rear, and optional heated rear seats. A seven-speaker stereo is standard, and a 13-speaker Harman Kardon system with Dolby Atmos is standard on the M60. The voice assistant now uses Amazon Alexa+ for more natural conversation. When the car is parked, passengers can stream video or play games on the central screen.

The iX4 is a coupe version of the Neue Klasse look, and BMW calls it the most expressive interpretation of the design so far. A long wheelbase, short overhangs, and muscular wheel arches give it a planted, athletic stance even when it’s parked.

The sloping roofline defines the profile, and a full-length panoramic glass roof comes standard. Hidden seals let the glass blend smoothly into the body, so the side view stays clean.

Up front, the iX4 has the upright Neue Klasse face. Flat, uncluttered surfaces put the focus on the slim kidney grille and twin headlights, which together with the front sensors form one wide band across the nose. As on the iX3, the BMW roundel sits in a small “valley” in the hood just above the grille.
