Thornley Kelham is pleased to announce that one of its first European Collection of reimagined vehicles has sold above high estimate at RM Sotheby’s Monterey Auction.
Offered as part of The Driver’s Philosophy Collection, the 1972 Porsche 911 European RS by Thornley Kelham sold for $802,500. This impressive result highlights the desirability of the Thornley Kelham European Collection models, which includes the Porsche 356 European SL and the Jaguar XK European GT Coupé and Roadster.
‘The sale of our Porsche 911 European RS at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey Auction is real recognition of the dedication and craftsmanship that goes into all our European Collection models,’ says Simon Thornley, director and founder of Thornley Kelham. ‘After nearly two decades of restoring iconic automobiles for concours events around the world, this shows what an incredible job our team have done to create our own reimagined and re-engineered cars that are appreciated by discerning international collectors.’
The European RS was created to be the ultimate expression of the 911, a tribute to the famous Carrera 2.7 RSR with modern engineering, a rewarding everyday driving experience and the highest level of craftsmanship. Limited to only 15 examples, each car takes over 6,000 hours to create, with extensive use of carbon fibre, luxury materials and components that are engineered in-house at the Thornley Kelham workshop in the Cotswolds.
At its heart is a naturally-aspirated, 24 valve 4-litre 993 -based flat-six, completely re-engineered to combine motorsport performance with everyday driveability. It produces 425 horsepower with an impressive 9,000 rpm redline, the power delivered through a close-ratio gearbox to deliver an analogue driving experience that genuinely thrills the emotions whether on road or track.
Described by RM Sotheby’s as being ‘among the rarest and most thoughtfully engineered interpretations yet created,’ the European RS perfectly embodies the 18-years of concours-level restoration and re-engineering experience that Thornley Kelham puts into every reimagined vehicle it creates.
The sale at Monterey proves that Thornley Kelham has successfully transferred its world-class concours restoration expertise into the highly desirable European Collection. Blending heritage with modernity and desirability with timeless style, these unique models embody the core philosophy followed by everyone at Thornley Kelham – The Design. The Details. The Drive.
