Chevy Dealer Slaps $400,000 Markup On Corvette ZR1X Over $296,445 Sticker

The $400,000 markup on this 2027 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X Convertible is bigger than the car’s entire $296,445 MSRP. That takes the total to $696,445, or about 2.35 times the factory sticker, for a Corvette that Chevrolet built to undercut seven-figure exotics.

The figure appears on a window sheet photographed inside the car in a showroom. That’s a huge gap compared with what buyers have actually paid for ZR1Xs this year, including one very rare limited edition.

The ZR1X Was Already Expensive Before This Sticker

The 2027 Corvette ZR1X starts at $227,800 after two price increases this year. That money buys a twin-turbo 5.5-liter LT7 dual-cam V8 hybrid using a 186 hp front electric motor, which combine for 1,250 hp.

Chevrolet claims a 1.89-second 0-60 mph run on an unprepped surface with the optional ZTK package, making it the quickest American street car ever. The ZR1X also set a production car record at Pikes Peak with a 9:30.104 run, beating the old mark by 23 seconds.

Chevrolet has called it the fastest way down a quarter-mile drag strip for under $1 million. This sticker technically keeps it under that limit, but it uses up about 70% of that budget. Dealers also receive limited allocations, which helps explain why big premiums keep appearing on a car that isn’t strictly a limited-production model.

The $400,000 Markup Is Labeled As “Hypercar Demand Premium”

The car is a 2027 ZR1X 3LZ Convertible in Red Mist Metallic, shown with its window sticker and a sheet carrying the name of George Nunnally Chevrolet in Bentonville, Arkansas. X user @Abomination81 posted the images on October 31.

That sheet lists a $400,000 “Exclusive Market Value Adjustment” and describes it as a “Hypercar Demand Premium.” The $296,445 MSRP is plausible for a well-optioned 3LZ Convertible, and Red Mist is a real ZR1X color.

The $400,000 line doesn’t add any equipment, and the sheet’s “Flagship Hypercar Edition” label doesn’t appear on Chevrolet’s ZR1X page or build tool. The dealer’s website prices cars from the Corvette Grand Sport to the Trax at no more than MSRP plus a $129 fee. But the particular Corvette ZR1X with its huge markup is not listed.

That makes this ZR1X a big exception to the dealer’s usual pricing. We found no public statement from the dealer or Chevrolet explaining the $400,000 charge.

Real ZR1X Sales Land Far Below This Price

The closest match is a 2027 ZR1X with a $296,100 sticker that sold for $441,000, or $144,900 over. This sheet asks for $255,445 more than that car brought.

Another 2027 car sold for $402,000 against a $290,289 sticker, while a 19-mile convertible with its warranty intact went for $390,000 plus a buyer’s fee. A one-of-100 Quail Silver Limited Edition brought $605,000 at Mecum, which is still about $91,000 below this ask.

A markup like this isn’t off-limits, since Chevrolet’s own fine print says the dealer sets the final price. The next thing to watch is whether the dealer explains the price or someone actually pays it.
