Aprilia has unveiled the RSV4 Obscure Spe.Ed., a limited-edition superbike that takes the company’s flagship V4 platform further into track-focused territory. Introduced at EICMA 2026, the new model sits above the RSV4 Factory, bringing carbon-fiber wheels, revised aerodynamics, manually adjustable Öhlins suspension, and an extensive electronics package. Production is limited to 500 individually numbered examples.

Developed with input from Aprilia Racing, the Obscure Spe.Ed. retains the 1,099cc V4 engine producing 220 horsepower, but weighs just 443 pounds thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber, or as Americans like to put it, “Italian chrome.” It’s also road-legal, despite its racing-oriented equipment. Aprilia hasn’t announced US pricing or availability, although its position above the RSV4 Factory establishes it as the most exclusive model in the current RSV4 lineup.

The Same V4 Engine, With Less Weight To Carry

Aprilia

Power comes from Aprilia’s existing 1,099cc, 65-degree V4 engine, which also powers the standard RSV4 and RSV4 Factory. The liquid-cooled, DOHC engine features four valves per cylinder, a 13.3:1 compression ratio, and four 52mm throttle bodies feeding eight fuel injectors. Output remains unchanged at 220 horsepower at 13,000 rpm and 93.7 pound-feet of torque at 10,800 rpm.

The engine is paired with a six-speed cassette-type transmission, a wet multiplate slipper clutch, and a bidirectional quickshifter. Would-be owners can also specify Aprilia Racing’s full exhaust system with an SC-Project carbon-fiber muffler. This increases output to 223.1 horsepower and 97.2 pound-feet of torque while reducing the motorcycle’s weight to 432 pounds.

Carbon Wheels And MotoGP Aerodynamics Take Center Stage

Aprilia

The Obscure Spe.Ed. retains the RSV4’s aluminum twin-spar frame and adjustable chassis architecture, but introduces BST carbon-fiber wheels that save more than 4.4 pounds compared with the forged aluminum wheels fitted to the RSV4 Factory. Additional carbon-fiber components include the front and rear fenders, side panels, footpeg guards, and front brake cooling ducts.

Aprilia has also introduced carbon-fiber Leg Wings derived from its RS-GP MotoGP machine. According to the manufacturer, these aerodynamic appendages increase rear-axle downforce by 20 percent, with the aim of improving rear tire grip. They complement the existing aerodynamic surfaces beneath the fairing and side panels. Installing the Leg Wings requires removing the passenger footpegs, although the motorcycle comes equipped for two-up riding.

Mechanical Öhlins Suspension Replaces Semi-Active Hardware

Aprilia

One of the biggest differences between the Obscure Spe.Ed. and RSV4 Factory is the suspension. Aprilia swaps out the Factory’s electronically controlled Öhlins suspension for a mechanically adjustable 43mm Öhlins NIX inverted fork and an Öhlins TTX rear shock. Both offer adjustments for spring preload, compression damping, and rebound damping.

Aprilia says the mechanical setup better accommodates the precise suspension adjustments required during racing. The motorcycle also retains an adjustable steering-head position and angle, engine height, and swingarm pivot height. Braking comes courtesy of dual 330mm front discs with Brembo Hypure four-piston radial calipers and a 220mm rear disc with a two-piston caliper.

A Full Electronics Package With Track-Specific Controls

Aprilia

Despite its conventional suspension adjustments, the Obscure Spe.Ed. retains a comprehensive electronics package built around a six-axis IMU and ride-by-wire throttle. Six riding modes are available, split between three road and three track settings, alongside three levels of cornering ABS, adjustable traction control, predictive wheelie control, engine braking adjustments, and three engine maps.

Launch control, a pit-lane speed limiter, and adjustable rear-wheel slide control are also standard. The corner-by-corner system uses GPS positioning to adjust traction control, wheelie control, and engine braking according to the rider’s programmed settings for different sections of a circuit. A five-inch TFT display, smartphone connectivity, GPS lap timing, and downloadable riding data complete the package.

A Limited-Edition Flagship For Serious Track Riders

Aprilia

With just 500 examples planned, the RSV4 Obscure Spe.Ed. is positioned above the RSV4 Factory as Aprilia’s most specialized road-legal superbike. Its exclusive black finish combines gloss and matte surfaces with exposed carbon fiber, while each motorcycle receives a numbered plaque engraved into the steering head.

Its closest rivals include premium track-oriented superbikes such as the Ducati Panigale V4 R and BMW M 1000 RR. However, the Aprilia’s combination of carbon wheels, MotoGP-derived aerodynamics, mechanically adjustable racing suspension, and limited production gives it a distinct specification. Final US pricing and availability will determine how it compares financially with those alternatives.
