• 555 hp ‘mini-supercar’ reimagines one of Renault’s most iconic performance cars for the modern electric era
• Limited to 1,980 examples worldwide, Renault 5 Turbo 3E is priced from £140,000, with deliveries from 2027
Appearing together outside Goodwood House before taking to the hill, the two cars created one of the standout moments of the event so far, bringing Renault’s rally-bred past and electric future together in a single, dramatic display.
The Renault 5 Turbo 3E reimagines the original’s spirit with 555 hp and 4,800 Nm of torque delivered by two rear-mounted in-wheel motors, making it the most powerful road-going Renault ever created. With a carbon superstructure helping keep weight to around 1,450 kg, it accelerates from 0–62 mph in under 3.5 seconds, while its advanced 800-volt architecture enables ultra-fast 330 kW charging.
Production will be limited to 1,980 individually numbered examples, a tribute to the launch year of the original Renault 5 Turbo. Priced from £140,000, reservations are open now, with first deliveries expected from 2027.
The 1980 car, owned by private collector Richard Head, has its own Goodwood story. After spotting a Renault 5 Turbo in a Festival of Speed car park, Richard set out to find the right example, eventually securing this highly original red car. Now a cherished part of his collection and described by Richard as ‘a defibrillator of a car’, it ran side-by-side with its modern successor to provide a fitting passing of the high-performance Renault 5 Turbo baton to a new electrified generation.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed runs until Sunday 12th July, with the Renault 5 Turbo 3E having a starring role on the Renault stand alongside the brand’s latest all-electric stars that include the Twingo, Renault 5 and Renault 4 Plein Sud.
