KTM showcased the 390 SMC R at EICMA 2026 and has confirmed its return for 2027. This lightweight supermoto remains mechanically unchanged from the previous model year but gets a slight cosmetic refresh in the form of a new livery. KTM hasn’t announced pricing for the 2027 model year yet, but the outgoing MY26 has an MSRP of $6,049. We’ll update this story when KTM reveals the new MSRP. KTM North America has confirmed that the entry-level supermoto will be available Stateside.
The KTM 390 SMC R launched last year as the most accessible entry point into the company’s supermoto lineup in the US, sitting well under the high-performance 690 SMC R and 450 SMR supermotos. Because it’s such a new model, many mechanical changes aren’t expected. KTM has confirmed that the 390 supermoto will return in 2027 with a new colorway.
The manufacturer has replaced last model year’s orange-and-white livery with a glossy, black-dominated one. The frame still retains the company’s signature traffic cone orange color, while the metal fuel tank features a matte grey finish. The tank shrouds and lower fork protectors feature blue/orange graphics. Overall, the new colorway is minimalist, which should appeal to riders who might otherwise not prefer a bright orange motorcycle.
KTM hasn’t announced any mechanical changes for the 2026 KTM 390 SMC R. Under the new livery, the little supermoto still features the LC4c powerplant. The 399cc liquid-cooled engine produces 44 horsepower and 29 lb-ft of torque, offering a peppy, versatile character.
The engine sits in a steel trellis frame and is supported by WP Apex suspension with 9.06-inch travel at each end. The front is a 43mm USD fork with 30-click rebound and compression damping adjustments, while the rear is a separate-piston monoshock with 20-click rebound and locking-collar preload adjustments.
The 17-inch wire-spoked wheels are wrapped in Michelin Power 6 sporty, street-focused tires. The brakes include a front ByBre radial-mount 2-piston caliper working on a 320mm floating disc and a rear single-piston caliper working on a 240mm disc. The bike tips the scales at 355 pounds.
The manufacturer says the bodywork is made of PP plastic, which is flexible and better suited to aggressive supermoto-style riding. Meanwhile, the ergonomics are inspired by the 690 SMC R, including a wide handlebar, upright position, and a single-piece flat seat at 33.85 inches off the ground. The 2.37-gallon fuel tank is said to allow movement and anchoring while cornering.
The tech package is carried over, too, including a small 4.2-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, 690 SMC R-inspired LED headlight, and a USB port. The brake and clutch levers and footrests are also adjustable. Rider aids include ride modes, lean-sensitive ABS with switchable rear, and traction control.
KTM has not revealed any details on the 390 SMC R’s MSRP or availability in US dealerships yet. We’ll update this story when the company discloses those details.
